How MyItura Is Rebuilding Healthcare Access in Nigeria, One Investor Conversation at a Time

by
Oluwadamilare Akinpelu

For many Nigerians, the phrase "Nigeria happened to me" means being worn down by a system that was never designed to serve you. For Shina Arogundade and the team at MyItura, it means something else entirely.

"Nigeria shaped us, sharpened us and strengthened our resolve to build what we wished existed when the system failed us," says Arogundade. That resolve started with a specific, painful observation: patients were losing their lives not because treatments did not exist, but because vital medical records were missing at the moment they were needed most.

That observation became MyItura. And MyItura is now one of the more interesting healthtech companies building on the infrastructure gap that Nigeria's fintech boom left behind in healthcare.

What MyItura Does

MyItura started as a medical records platform. The core insight was simple and damning: if a Nigerian can open a mobile banking app and see five years of transaction history in under ten seconds, why does accessing their medical history still require physically collecting paper files from a clinic that may or may not still have them?

That question drove the initial product. Today the platform has expanded substantially. Users can type in their location and instantly see nearby laboratories and pharmacies with available tests and transparent pricing. An OCR-powered test interpretation feature allows users to upload lab reports and receive plain-language explanations of their results. A full EMR system gives healthcare providers digital dashboards to manage patient data, pricing, test offerings, and consultations.

The newest feature is Mediloan. In a country where treatment delays most often start with payment delays, Mediloan provides users with fast, secure health financing so that the question of cost does not determine whether someone gets care.

"You don't have to worry about the cost first. You focus on getting better. We handle the financial burden."

The mission the team keeps returning to is direct: no Nigerian should suffer avoidable harm because healthcare was too expensive, too distant, or too disorganised to help them in time.

The Fundraising Challenge

Building infrastructure for a fragmented, underfunded healthcare system is capital-intensive by definition. MyItura is in active fundraising mode, and the process of getting in front of investors, sharing materials, and managing the pipeline is one that Arogundade has thought carefully about.

Like most early-stage founders in emerging markets, the team was running investor conversations across email threads and WhatsApp chats. The product they were pitching was sophisticated. The tools they were using to pitch it were not.

Before Pitchwise: Sending Into the Void

"It was simple but painfully blind," Arogundade says of the pre-Pitchwise workflow.

The team would spend days refining the pitch deck, the one-pager, and the financial models. Then they would send it via email or WhatsApp and wait. Sometimes for weeks. With no way of knowing whether the deck was opened, ignored, forwarded to a partner, or sitting unread in a crowded inbox.

"You don't know which slides resonated or where someone stopped reading. The only signal you get is either a "we'll get back to you" that never comes or, if you're lucky, a follow-up meeting request weeks later."

For a small team managing a demanding product roadmap alongside a fundraising process, that uncertainty was expensive. Not just in time, but in mental load. Chasing investors without any signal meant guessing who was worth following up with, when, and how.

How MyItura Uses Pitchwise Today

The switch was straightforward. Every investor-facing document now goes through Pitchwise: the pitch deck, the one-pager, and the financial model. Pitchwise operates as the team's virtual data room for due diligence and their document-tracking hub for all outbound sharing.

"We get insights on who viewed what, how long they spent on each slide, and whether they came back for a second look," Arogundade explains.

The standout feature for the MyItura team is visitor identification. Knowing which investor opened the deck, even before any reply comes in, changes the follow-up entirely. A founder who knows a specific partner spent twelve minutes on the financial model is having a different conversation than one following up blind.

"We can identify visitors. We know who viewed our deck, even if they don't reply immediately."

That single shift, from blind sending to informed follow-up, describes most of what founders mean when they say fundraising feels different with Pitchwise.

The Numbers

143

unique visitors to documents

11+ hrs

total investor review time logged

~80%

reduction in follow-up guesswork

~3x

faster to schedule next meetings on active engagement

The number Arogundade mentions first when asked about impact is not the visitor count or the review hours. It is the last one: zero deals lost to "we never received your deck" or "can you resend an updated version of the file?"

For founders who have spent time chasing down whether a deck actually arrived, that number is not trivial.

What's Next for MyItura

The next 6 to 12 months are focused on two things: expanding Mediloan to more users across Nigeria and onboarding more laboratories, pharmacies, and clinicians, with a specific focus on underserved states where formal healthcare infrastructure is thinnest.

The platform is built around the idea that the problem is not the absence of demand for healthcare in Nigeria. It is the absence of infrastructure that connects demand to supply reliably, affordably, and at scale. Mediloan is the piece that makes that connection financially viable for the people who need it most.

Pitchwise stays in the workflow as the team moves through fundraising conversations. As the round progresses and due diligence materials are shared with more investors, document tracking and data room access controls become more useful, not less.

One Piece of Advice

When asked what he would tell another founder going through the same fundraising process, Arogundade does not hesitate:

"It's not about how many decks you send. It's about knowing what happens after you send them. Save your mental health. Use Pitchwise."
