8VC is an Austin-based venture capital firm founded in 2015 by Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir Technologies and serial entrepreneur. The firm relocated its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin in 2020 and maintains additional offices in New York and San Francisco. 8VC manages over $6 billion in committed capital, including Fund VI which closed in 2025 at approximately $998 million, and invests across seed, early, and growth stages in enterprise software, defense technology, biotechnology, logistics, and artificial intelligence. Beyond capital, 8VC operates a Build program through which Lonsdale and his partners actively co-found and incubate companies within areas of strategic conviction, including companies such as Epirus, OpenGov, and Resilience Bio. The firm's thesis centers on software transforming the world's most important and often most inefficient sectors: defense, healthcare infrastructure, financial services, and logistics. 8VC was an early institutional investor in Anduril Industries, now valued at over $28 billion and considered one of the most significant defense technology companies of its generation, as well as Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY), Guardant Health (Nasdaq: GH), and Oscar Health (NYSE: OSCR). Lonsdale co-founded Palantir Technologies in 2003, before the firm was established, and Palantir remains one of the most prominent companies associated with 8VC's portfolio lineage. Beyond its original investments in Palantir, Oculus, Joby Aviation, and Relativity Space, the firm's portfolio includes Anduril, Addepar, Guardant Health, Oscar Health, Illumio, Synthego, Qualia, Yugabyte, Flexport, Blend, and Wish.
