Accel is one of the world's most influential early-stage venture capital firms, founded in 1983 by Arthur Patterson and Jim Swartz in Palo Alto, California. In April 2026, the firm raised a $5 billion vehicle focused on AI and next-generation enterprise software, among the largest early-stage VC funds raised globally. Over more than four decades, Accel has backed more than 1,200 companies including 110 unicorns, with 388 acquisitions and 46 IPOs in its portfolio track record. The firm's most celebrated early investment was a $12.7 million Series A in Facebook in 2005, worth $6.6 billion at IPO in 2012.
