About

AIX Ventures

AIX Ventures is a San Francisco-based venture capital firm founded in 2021, built around the thesis that AI-first companies, where artificial intelligence is integral to the product's existence and competitive moat rather than a feature, will define the next generation of transformative businesses. The firm is distinguished by its partner composition: investment partners are active AI practitioners including Pieter Abbeel (robotics and reinforcement learning pioneer), Anthony Goldbloom (founder of Kaggle), Richard Socher (former Chief Scientist at Salesforce), Christopher Manning (Stanford NLP faculty), and Sara Tatman, giving it unusual proximity to the frontier of AI research. AIX manages approximately $252 million across two funds, including a $202 million Fund II. Initial checks range from $750,000 to $3 million, targeting a 7% to 12% ownership stake, with follow-on investments of up to $10 million. The firm has backed 76 companies, seven of which have reached unicorn status. It rejects commoditized AI applications in favor of companies where AI enables entirely new categories of products and business models that could not exist otherwise, spanning enterprise software, healthcare, defense, biotechnology, and research infrastructure. Beyond its original investments in Fixie.ai, Giga ML, Meru Health, and Cleanlab, the firm's portfolio includes Hugging Face, Perplexity, Profluent, Ideogram, You.com, Deepgram, and TollBit.
