About

AllegisCyber Capital

AllegisCyber Capital is a San Francisco-based venture capital firm founded in 1996 by Robert (Bob) Ackerman Jr., making it one of the world's earliest and longest-running dedicated cybersecurity investment firms. The firm evolved from a broader early-stage technology focus to an exclusive cybersecurity mandate after nearly two decades of investing heavily in the sector, raising what it describes as the first dedicated cybersecurity venture fund in the world. Bob Ackerman is also co-founder of DataTribe, a Maryland-based startup studio that co-builds cybersecurity and data science companies with talent drawn from US intelligence agencies and national laboratories, and co-founder of CyberGRX, a third-party cyber risk management platform. The firm manages more than 40 investments across 13 fund vehicles, most recently a $227 million dedicated cybersecurity fund closed in 2020, and its partners collectively bring more than seven decades of combined venture capital experience. AllegisCyber operates at seed and early-stage, prioritizing companies with proprietary technology and defensible positions in enterprise security, threat intelligence, data protection, and digital risk management. The firm suffered no portfolio losses during the early COVID period, a record it attributes to its operational depth and founder-centric approach. Area 1 Security, an AllegisCyber portfolio company, was acquired by Cloudflare in 2022 for $162 million. Beyond its original investments in Area 1, AttackIQ, Baffle, and ColorTokens, the firm's portfolio includes Niantic, Wickr (acquired by Amazon Web Services), Dragos, Synack, NetWitness, and LookingGlass Cyber Solutions.
