Atomico

Atomico is a London-based venture capital firm founded in 2006 by Niklas Zennström, co-creator of Skype and co-founder of KaZaA, with the explicit mission of proving that European technology companies did not need to relocate to Silicon Valley to reach global scale. Zennström built Atomico around a firm conviction that the most valuable support a venture investor can provide comes from having lived the experience of founding and scaling a technology business, and the firm is staffed with former operators alongside financial investors. Atomico manages more than $5 billion in assets under management and closed its sixth fund in September 2024 at $1.24 billion split between a $754 million growth-stage vehicle and a $485 million early-stage fund, the largest fundraise in the firm's history. The firm has offices in London, Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm and has invested in more than 200 companies across 15 European countries, with 1 in 6 current portfolio companies valued in excess of $1 billion. Atomico publishes an annual State of European Tech report and a Conscious Scaling report, making it one of the most intellectually engaged firms in the European ecosystem. Notable portfolio exits include Supercell, the Finnish mobile gaming studio behind Clash of Clans, which SoftBank acquired for $3 billion, and Graphcore, the UK AI chip company. Beyond its original investments in Klarna, Supercell, MessageBird, and Graphcore, the broader portfolio includes Stripe, DeepL, Aiven, Hinge Health, Pipedrive, Corti, Pelago, and Job and Talent.
