Augmentum Fintech is the UK's only publicly listed investment company dedicated exclusively to the fintech sector, trading on the main market of the London Stock Exchange under the ticker AUGM. The firm was founded in 2009 by Tim Levene and Richard Matthews as Augmentum Capital, a private fintech venture fund, before completing an initial public offering in March 2018 that raised £94 million and transferred the portfolio to a closed-ended investment trust structure. This publicly listed structure gives retail and institutional investors in the UK direct exposure to private fintech venture investments without the high minimums and long lock-up periods that conventional venture funds require, and the shares are available through standard UK brokerage accounts. Augmentum has invested in 39 companies and has three unicorns in its current portfolio: Tide, the UK business banking platform for SMEs, which became a unicorn in 2025 and represents 24% of Augmentum's net asset value; Grover, the German consumer electronics rental subscription platform; and Zopa, the UK digital bank and peer-to-peer lender. The firm also backed Gemini, the US cryptocurrency exchange, which completed an IPO on Nasdaq in 2025. Augmentum has achieved 11 acquisitions and 2 IPOs across its portfolio history. Beyond its original investments in Tide, Interactive Investor, Zopa, and BullionVault, the broader portfolio includes Monese, Grover, Volt, Onfido, Habito, Farewill, and Gemini.
