About

Battery Ventures

Battery Ventures is a Boston-based multi-stage venture capital firm founded in 1983, one of the longest-running technology-focused venture capital firms in the United States, with more than four decades of investing experience across enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, and data businesses. The firm manages more than $13 billion in assets under management across more than seventeen funds, investing from seed through growth stages with initial checks typically from $5 million to $20 million, and follow-on capacity to back companies through multiple rounds. Battery has maintained a consistent focus on backing technology companies that are building infrastructure, tools, and software used by businesses and developers, and has repeatedly identified category-defining companies before they reached mainstream awareness. The firm closed a $3.25 billion fund in 2025, the largest in its history, reflecting the strength of enterprise software and data investing demand. Portfolio exits span multiple technology cycles. Groupon, the local deals marketplace, completed a Nasdaq IPO and became one of the fastest companies to reach a $1 billion valuation. Glassdoor, the employer review and jobs platform, was acquired by Recruit Holdings for $1.2 billion in 2018. Coinbase, the cryptocurrency exchange, completed a direct listing on Nasdaq in 2021 at a valuation exceeding $85 billion. Sprinklr, the customer experience management platform, completed a New York Stock Exchange IPO in 2021. Beyond its original investments in Groupon, Glassdoor, Coinbase, and Sprinklr, the broader Battery portfolio includes Wayfair, Duo Security (acquired by Cisco), and more than two hundred active investments.
