About

Canapi Ventures

Canapi Ventures is a Washington, DC-based venture capital firm founded in 2018, focused exclusively on B2B software and fintech companies building the next generation of financial services infrastructure for community and regional banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and asset managers. The firm's most distinctive characteristic is its LP base: Canapi is backed by approximately 70 financial institutions, including community banks and super-regional banks that serve as the Canapi Alliance, giving portfolio companies direct access to enterprise banking customers for piloting, testing, and deploying their products. This structure transforms the traditional VC model by aligning financial returns with commercial distribution, allowing Canapi to provide portfolio companies with both capital and a warm introduction to dozens of potential enterprise customers from day one. The firm has raised $1.4 billion across Fund I and Fund II, investing at seed through Series B stages with check sizes ranging from a few million to $20 million-plus. Canapi's investment verticals span fraud and identity, financial infrastructure, lending and credit technology, payments, and real estate technology. Portfolio companies include Alloy, the financial identity and compliance automation platform; Blend, the digital lending platform for banks that completed a Nasdaq IPO in 2021; Sardine, the fraud and compliance platform for financial services; and Unit, the embedded banking infrastructure platform. Notable exits include Blend (Nasdaq: BLND), Able (acquired), Finxact (acquired by Fiserv), and Neuro-ID. Beyond its original investments in Alloy, Blend, Sardine, and Unit, the portfolio includes 65 companies across financial services technology.
