Clean Energy Ventures is a Boston-based seed and Series A venture capital firm focused exclusively on climate technology, backing companies developing breakthrough energy and materials technologies that can fundamentally change the economics and scale of the clean energy transition. The firm invests specifically in hard technology companies where the scientific or engineering breakthroughs required are high but the potential for global-scale impact is commensurate, emphasizing solutions in energy storage, renewable fuels, carbon removal, industrial decarbonization, and advanced materials. Clean Energy Ventures takes a patient capital approach recognizing the longer timelines required for hardware and materials companies to reach commercial validation, and brings scientific expertise through a team combining climate science, energy engineering, and venture investing backgrounds. The firm invests with initial checks from $1 million to $5 million. Portfolio companies include Antora Energy, which develops high-temperature thermal energy storage for industrial heat decarbonization; Brimstone Energy, developing zero-carbon Portland cement; Electrify, working on electrification of industrial heating; and Gradient, an alternative to traditional air conditioning. Beyond its original investments, the portfolio includes additional breakthrough climate technology companies.
