Illuminate Financial is a London-based seed, Series A, and Series B venture capital firm focused exclusively on financial technology for institutional financial markets, investing in companies building the software, data, and infrastructure platforms used by banks, asset managers, hedge funds, exchanges, and regulators in capital markets, post-trade processing, risk management, and financial regulation compliance. The firm was founded by Mark Beeston and invests with initial checks from $2 million to $10 million at seed through Series B stages in companies that are addressing genuine structural inefficiencies in the financial market infrastructure that major financial institutions have historically been unable to solve internally. Portfolio companies include AxiomSL, the financial regulatory reporting and risk data management platform for global financial institutions; Droit, the computational law and compliance analytics platform for derivatives regulation; Nivaura, the digital securities issuance and financial markets automation platform; and OpenGamma, the derivatives analytics and risk management platform for buy-side firms. Beyond its original investments in AxiomSL, Droit, Nivaura, and OpenGamma, the portfolio includes additional institutional fintech companies across capital markets technology, regulatory technology, and financial data infrastructure.
