About

Industrifonden (Sweden)

Industrifonden is a Stockholm-based public institutional venture capital fund founded in 1979, one of the oldest and most significant sources of early and growth-stage venture capital for Swedish technology companies, operating as an independent investment fund backed by Swedish government and institutional sources and investing across seed through growth stages in industrial technology, climate and energy, health technology, and digital enterprise companies across Sweden and the Nordics. The fund invests with initial checks from $2 million to $15 million and takes an active board role in portfolio companies, combining long-term patient capital with genuine operational expertise across its investment sectors. Industrifonden has backed some of the most significant Swedish technology companies across its history. Spotify, the Swedish music streaming platform that completed a NYSE direct listing in 2018, was an early Industrifonden portfolio company. iZettle, the Swedish mobile payments company, was backed by Industrifonden before its $2.2 billion acquisition by PayPal. Oatly, the Swedish oat milk company, received Industrifonden investment before completing a Nasdaq IPO in 2021. Northvolt, the Swedish battery cell manufacturer, received Industrifonden investment; Northvolt filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2024 following operational and financial challenges at scale. Beyond its original investments in Spotify, iZettle, Oatly, and Northvolt, the portfolio includes additional Swedish and Nordic technology companies across industrial, climate, health, and enterprise sectors.
