Khosla Ventures is a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm founded in 2004 by Vinod Khosla, the co-founder of Sun Microsystems and one of the most prominent and contrarian technology investors of his generation, who built Khosla Ventures on the conviction that venture capital should fund the most ambitious and technically challenging transformations of the world's largest industries. The firm manages approximately $15 billion in assets under management and invests from seed through growth stages with initial checks from $1 million to $10 million in artificial intelligence, healthcare, energy, robotics, consumer technology, and enterprise software. OpenAI received early Khosla Ventures investment. Instacart was backed by Khosla before completing a Nasdaq IPO in 2023. DoorDash completed a Nasdaq IPO. Square, the payments company, was backed by Khosla Ventures. Joby Aviation and Impossible Foods are portfolio companies. Beyond its original investments in OpenAI, Instacart, and DoorDash, the portfolio includes hundreds of additional AI, climate, health, and enterprise companies.
