Knife Capital is a Cape Town-based venture capital firm founded by Andrea Böhmert and Keet van Zyl, focused on seed and Series A investments in South African and pan-African technology companies, particularly businesses that have demonstrated genuine product-market fit and are ready to scale their commercial operations. The firm invests with initial checks from $2 million to $10 million and has been one of the most active and longest-running institutional seed investors in South Africa. Portfolio companies include Clickatell, the South African chat commerce and customer engagement technology company acquired in a transaction valuing it at $140 million; GetSmarter, the online education platform acquired by 2U for $103 million; and WhereIsMyTransport, the Cape Town-based public transport data and intelligence company. Beyond its original investments, the portfolio includes additional South African and pan-African technology companies.
