Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund is the climate-focused corporate venture capital vehicle of Microsoft Corporation, established in 2020 with a $1 billion commitment to accelerate the deployment of technologies critical to reaching global net-zero emissions. The fund invests at Series A, Series B, and growth stages with initial checks from $5 million to $50 million in companies where Microsoft's global enterprise relationships, cloud platform, and technology expertise can provide strategic value. Portfolio companies include Carbon Engineering, the Canadian direct air capture company acquired by Occidental Petroleum subsidiary 1PointFive in 2023; Heirloom Carbon, the direct air capture company using limestone mineralization; LanzaTech, the carbon capture and utilization company converting industrial emissions into sustainable fuels that completed a Nasdaq listing; and Twelve, the company converting CO2 into sustainable chemicals and fuels. Beyond its original investments, the portfolio includes additional climate technology companies.
