Shell Foundation is a London-based independent charitable foundation funded by Shell plc, operating as an impact investment and grant-making organization focused on addressing energy access, sustainable mobility, and climate resilience challenges for underserved communities in developing countries. Shell Foundation is distinct from Shell Ventures (the corporate VC arm). The foundation invests with initial checks from $1 million to $5 million in social enterprises and companies developing affordable, clean energy solutions for low-income communities. Portfolio companies include SparkMeter, the smart electricity metering platform for utilities in emerging markets; and Husk Power Systems, the company operating mini-grids powered by biomass and solar energy for off-grid rural communities. Beyond its original investments, the portfolio includes additional energy access and sustainable mobility companies.
