The Column Group

The Column Group is a San Francisco-based seed, Series A, and Series B venture capital firm focused exclusively on biopharmaceutical companies, founded by Peter Svennilson and David Goeddel, one of the scientists who produced the first synthesis of human insulin using recombinant DNA technology at Genentech. The firm invests with initial checks from $5 million to $30 million. Portfolio companies include Alector, the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing medicines for neurodegeneration; C2N Diagnostics, the diagnostics company developing blood tests for early detection of Alzheimer's disease; Denali Therapeutics, the clinical-stage company developing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases that completed a Nasdaq IPO; and Protagonist Therapeutics, the clinical-stage company developing peptide-based drugs. Beyond its original investments, the portfolio includes additional early-stage biopharmaceutical companies.
