Use of Funds Template (2026 Edition)

Description

Most use of funds templates ask you to type in a split and colour a pie chart. Investors can tell. What they want to see is the plan underneath the numbers: who you are hiring, what it costs, what you expect to earn, and how long the money lasts.

This template works the other way round. You build your operating plan on one sheet, your team quarter by quarter plus a few revenue and cost drivers, and the use of funds falls out of it: spend by category, your runway, and the quarter your cash flow turns positive. Change one assumption and every number updates.

Everything you should not touch is locked, so you only ever fill the blue cells. It is currency neutral, works in Excel, and is built to sit inside a data room without breaking.

What's inside:

  • One working sheet. Fill the blue cells; the rest is calculated and locked
  • A quarterly team plan that drives your personnel cost by department
  • Revenue and cost drivers that build the model from the ground up
  • Spend by category, with each slice as a percentage of the round
  • A funding check: planned raise, current cash, total project cash, runway, lowest cash point, and the quarter you turn cash-flow positive
  • A spend breakdown chart and a cumulative cash curve
  • A short guide tab, and notes on every input

This resource is for:

  • Founders preparing to raise at pre-seed, seed or Series A who want their use of funds to hold up when an investor digs in.
  • Operators and finance leads who would rather model the plan than guess the split.
